Breakfast there was amazing. I had the scrambled eggs with sautéed garlic and basil, wow! So good! Service was great and fast considering it was Labor Day weekend.

Wonderful breakfast! I had a special dish, the Caprese Benedict. It was godlike. English muffin, tomato, poached egg, pesto, and a drizzle of balsamic reduction. One if the best breakfast dishes I've had. Their hash browns are also great. They don't taste like the pre prepared frozen ones many places use at all. Wife loved the Polish sausage scramble. The gravy is also first rate. My son had biscuits and gravy. I'm assuming the owner is Polish. There is a clock set to Warsaw time on the wall. The place has a nice friendly atmosphere. We waited a bit, maybe 20 min on a Saturday morning at 1015, but it was well worth it for this breakfast. Destination breakfast for sure! I'll be back.

This post is 100% only for the "Bloody Mary" The BM is bottled "Lyle Style" nothing special about that!! Outside of that, the place looks pretty good. We will come back and try the food on our next trip. We are on a Bloody Mary hunt and used "Yelp To Help"

The breakfast at this place is solid! I had a delicious breakfast burrito with spinach and cheese. They even added extra spinach for no extra charge. My friends ordered skillet meals and a breakfast sandwich that looked good. I had to ask for a coffee refill once, but not a huge deal. There's parking across the street.

Saw a billboard for this place and thought we would try it. Looking at the menu I thought it was a little high. I mean 10.95 for an omelette? Then I saw rhe breakfast sampler. ..2 eggs, bacon, link sausage, patty sausage, ham, toast, biscuit and gravy, hash browns, and 2 large pancakes for 17.95. Best coffee we've had on our travels. 5 STARS!

Traveling from Portland back to our home in Illinois, we were lucky to find this stop for brunch on a random exit off of I84. This couple from the"flat lands" also enjoyed seeing Mt. Hood out the window during our meal! My Benedict Florentine breakfast was amazing, & my hubby enjoyed his bacon n eggs! With a large selection of breakfast & lunch options (some organic), we had a hard time deciding what to order! Friendly staff!

My favorite place to eat breakfast. I've tried various places, but I always go back to Egg River!

Reviews looked good so we came for late breakfast around 1. Pancake was delicious. That's about all. The gal waiting on us came to the table one time after we got our food. Had to get up to go ask to order a drink and more water. Egg skillet bland. Overpriced for the quality of food. Overly strong Bloody Mary (some like it that way). But yea the gal serving was not helpful, even rude, walking away mid my asking for more water. Spent $40 for two people. Again, the pancake was delish and worth the $5!

Our first time in the Hood River area and we were so pleasantly surprised to find this place. We missed the parking across the street but when we came back down the hill we saw a magnificent view of Mt. Adams. Our morning view was exceptional. Menu has just about everything for a great breakfast. Salmon Benedict was very tasty! I enjoyed the atmosphere here too. Staff are friendly and helpful! I asked if there was a map of the area and our waitress retrieved an incredibly helpful map.

I have no complaints! I like that they have organic food. Everything was good including the scrambled eggs which is a nice, so many restaurants serve nasty eggs that seem old. Not here! I didn't go 5 stars only because I've only been there once and haven't had more of their food.

Amazing specials but I went with scrambled eggs bacon & red potatoes. Massive portions for $10 & very good! Terrible Bloody Mary but lots of other options. Great coffee.

Went there for father's day breakfast and was quite happy. I had a Mexican breakfast burrito which was nice and filling. No complaints, they were busy but coped very well.

Visiting Hood River for the first time, found this place on Yelp... Drove around for a little bit trying to find parking (but I assumed that was a good sign!) ... Very friendly staff. I was alone, but it's definitely a family and group friendly place to hang out and eat. Food was great! ... At the recommendation of a fellow yelper, I tried the corned beef hash (which I love, but always end up disappointed with when I order it at restaurants)... NOT DISAPPOINTED AT ALL!!! I world for sure recommend this place for breakfast anytime!

So good!!! Everything was amazing and service was awesome. The Country Short Rib Hash, blueberry pancakes and cinnamon roll french toast were to die for. Would love to come back again!

We 5 (+ twins - almost 2 yrs) had breakfast during the week while on vacation. The"place was packed" with what appeared to be "locals." Probably 15-20 tables. We waited 1/2 hr to get seated and another 45 minutes to eat after we ordered. Had this happened elsewhere "I'd have been OTD (out the door) but, this experience was different. The "kidz" were "occupied" and it's a "good people watching" place. The food arrived which was excellent. The eggs "over easy" and undercooked as I had requested. The link sausage was good too. The coffee very good and refills kept coming without asking. Worth the wait!

The food here is really good. I ordered the crepes florentine, and got two delicious egg crepes with a good sized order of red potatoes. The portions here are large and tasty. The prices are a little high for Oregon, but it's because they use organic eggs. The service was very slow. When my partner and I arrived, we were seated almost immediately. We were in a rush to go to the river and were ready to order within 5 minutes. It took 15 minutes for our waitress to come to our booth and take our order. It took another 10 minutes to get our drinks, and...wait for it....over 30 minutes to get our breakfasts. Yes, 30 minutes for some eggs. We were wondering if they had to go handpick the eggs from a shed outside or something. Our waitress - who was a sweetheart - definitely recognized that the service was slow and apologized several times for it. Quite frankly, she seemed harried and overworked. It seems like they need to hire more staff because she was all over the place attending to tables and trying to do the best she could. She literally ran to our table at one point because we had been waiting so long for someone to pick up the check and credit card. Despite the slow service, I found the food and atmosphere enjoyable enough to give this place a 4 star rating. I would return, but definitely not if I was on a time crunch.

  • Chana L.

Specifically came here because the sign in the window says organic eggs. I assumed that's why their prices are higher than average-especially higher than outstanding breakfast restaurants in Portland. When you order they ask you if you would like organic eggs. If you do they charge you more. No where does it say this on the menu. Why even have non organic eggs? I really don't like being charged more for something they advertise. My son had the apple pie pancakes. Real maple syrup is $3 extra. Not very surprising. Food was not even that good. Fairly bland and the hash browns seemed frozen? Next time I'll make my own breakfast. Or go to River Daze.

by far one of the worst bloody mary's I have ever had :-( highly disappointed!! And service was less than desirable. Won't be making another trip for that again :-(

  • Tabbatha C.

Variety of food is great. View is spectacular! Atmosphere is relaxed, casual. A bit slow on coffee refills (both times I ate here) :-/ If you get the strawberry compote, have them heat it a little....it comes out cold and makes your pancake cold....

  • Brandon B.

This is the best breakfast spot in the Hood River/Dalles area. The food is delicious, wait staff is friendly, seating is spacious, and there's a nice view. If this place was in Portland I'd go all the time.

Don't read any of the negative reviews. The food was insane. I had the harvest skillet special. It was cooked to perfection! My husband got his classic chicken fried steak, and said his was amazing!

Delicious, and GLUTEN free. -- I wrote this draft awhile ago, I don't remember much else, so I can't contribute more, but if I gave it 5 star, it must be good, I am so picky. Enjoy

Looks like the typical breakfast cafe, but the food is not your typical greas-on-a-platter meal. HUGE pancakes Delicious chicken skillet (with cheesy potatoes! Yum). Recommend this above all! Biscuits and Gravy.... my go-to... large side order! Everything else that our table ordered looked delicious also. We squeezed in on a Saturday morning and somehow managed a 10 minute wait - score!

Friendly place, Egg River has classic big, big breakfasts: hash browns, eggs, toast and coffee in a diner style setting. They feature organic coffee, locally made and friendly local servers. Coffee roasted locally, but it did taste like diner coffee, just the same. Food was diner food, elevated with ingredients we were told were "local" and "fresh." These words were bandied about a lot during our visit to Egg River, and I appreciate that, but it didn't always translate into our overall experience. For example, the homemade corn tortilla in our huevos rancheros order --I really appreciate the flavor and texture of a homemade tortilla. Unfortunately, those huevos rancheros were so packed full of precooked, gritty bacon bits, it ruined the dish. A classic case of overkiill. While breakfast was $3 for kids elsewhere in town, here, we were not offered a kids menu (do they have one?) so our daugther ordered a huge adult breakfast at $15, of which she could eat only about a third. The best part was a homemade buttermilk biscuit --in hindsight we should have just ordered a biscuit and side of scrambled eggs. My husband's breakfast was your typical egg overload. Not inspired, but big, and man friendly. Our tab for three was about $20 more than a much better breakfast experience we enjoyed (for less) in town the following day. This was an overwhelmed, but well meaning service experience. When our youngster spilled a giant water glass, rather than generously helping us clean up a tidal wave, so we could all move on to eating food we had just been served, we were thrown an old yellow towel, which we used to try to sop up the mess as our server ran away, not to return again for 20 minutes. Sadly, the towel we were left with was insufficient to stop the spill. This giant wet mess was then left on our table for over fifteen minutes, meanwhile our food cooled, and we were wet, grumpy and quickly losing our appetites. We had to get up to ask them to remove the wet towel. Ugh. Think local dinner, well meaning, busy spot with big big portions and solid but really, just okay food. Service is friendly, but very distracted.

Egg River is just what needed for our hangovers, haha! Organic eggs, cooked from scratch deliciousness. The portion sizes are huge & filling. Apple pancakes were amazing, and the skillet meals were fluffy and packed with ingredients. Parking is a little difficult.

I've eaten here almost exclusively, when out for brekkie, for nearly a year... I've left one other negative review, over-serving booze to the morning crowd. This morning was so awful, I can't help but think they have exchanged their kitchen staff for the cast of "Americas worst cooks".... I am a food nazi, yah, totally not nice. But hey! I can make eggs benny for my house of 7 for the same price as one plate at this Joint. I come here because I don't WANT to cook some days. Today I made sure the waiter knew that I didn't want my eggs over-poached and that I would send them back if they were, what!! Gasp!!? They were over-poached and tasted of a medium boiled egg. What I got back was so under cooked I thought I was being punked. I had to pour about 6oz of water off my plate, which then included most of the hollandaise sauce and spices cooked into the red potatoes... The egg was translucent. Gross. Couldn't eat it. No refund or discount offered. Just a pleasant smile and total disregard. Lame. Please bring back the real chef. This is a hot mess. I'm a chef. Probably hard to please... No. Not really I'm super easy to please.

I wanted so much to be able to give this charming restaurant more stars. The place has all booths and a spectacular view of the river and Washington. The food disappointed me. The presentation was great. I ordered veggie Benedict with fruit. The eggs were great and the hollandaise sauce very tasty but my fruit was old and certainly not fresh. Also the tomato on my Benedict was spoiled. My husband ordered a spinach and egg burrito with hash browns. He liked his burrito but his hash browns were chunky and undercooked. My chai tea and my husbands coffee was very good (we ignored the lipstick on my husbands cup). I'm hoping they were having an off day because this place looks adorable.

3.5 stars? Seriously folks? In Portland, 3.5 stars almost means it's not even worth trying... You should DEFINITELY try this place out! I have been to nearly every breakfast place in Portland, and I still wish we had a place like Egg River. Things I like about this place: You can see MT ADAMS looming over the horizon from the big, bright windows. The side of fruit is not some, half-arsed 99% cantaloupe/honeydew tomfoolery. You can get ALL GRAPEFRUIT. Grapefruit is my favorite fruit, and to have a large bowl of fresh, peeled grapefruit, in the NW?! Heaven. They've got a lot of menu options, everything from organicy-"granola"-y stuff to down-home diner-style stuff. There really is something for everyone. I'm a sucker for specials, and this place often has 5-6 of them, and they all look tempting The coffee is real good. Most importantly: THEY OPEN AT SIX AM. So you can have a hot breakfast before you hike in the Gorge or climb in the area. No one likes to open early in Portland and I hate to cook, so this is HUGE for me. Oh, and since this place is NOT located in Portland: you can get them to split a check and they won't look at you like you just said the holocaust never happened.

My girlfriend and I have came here a couple of times. The first time the experience was good, the food was good except the eggs(which is disappointing considering its "egg river cafe" you'd think their eggs would be excellent. And the prices are quite high..If I remember right, its about 11 dollars for a Belgian waffle with strawberries! That costs like two dollars to make..lets be honest. The second time however, we decided we wouldn't come back for a few reasons. The service was just more then unacceptable. The brown haired waitress was judgy and rude..and very unattentive. Maybe she thought we wouldn't tip well, but little does she know-I'm a waitress. Don't judge on looks. We asked for a straw for our water, and she gave us a look like we were stupid for asking then walked off and we never saw her near our table again. Sure, she walked on by and helped everyone else-but we were long forgotten..or just not cared about. And for the review that says the waitresses help every table-that's a lie! Or maybe its just been us personally..but jeez, I've never felt more ignored at a restaurant by servers who were doing nothing but standing around.

I thought this was a new place but DH reminded me that we'd been here before. Decent breakfast place with very little wait. I had the two egg breakfast while the DH had the sausage scramble. Both dishes were delectable and easy to go down. I wasn't that hungry but I ate almost everything!! Always like returning here. Cute country decor here. The waitress was very attentive and checked on us frequently. Wasn't disappointed by any means. Come here if you want a nice hearty breakfast or just continental style- they have both.

Just an all around, good breakfast. This place is not fancy but it delivers a great traditional breakfast! I chose Egg Cafe for my boyfriend and I because he loves eggs and their menu is full of options. Between the two of us we had a make your own egg scramble, biscuits with gravy, 2 pancakes and red potatoes. Everything was delicious and the amount of food had us leaving with a to-go container. While having breakfast my boyfriend said he would eat their 4 times a week if he lived in town. Next time we are in Hood River we will go back.

Great view, pleasant service, not busy on a week day morning in October. Cannot recommend the food. The apple pancake was molten hot on the outside, but uncooked batter inside. Eggs & hash browns served cold and had to be redone. Definitely not worth high prices. Won't be back.

Stopped in here for breakfast. The yogurt and granola may be the best, great ingredients and fruit. Staff was friendly even on a busy weekend morning. Definitely recommended and would visit again if in the area.

The food was amazing!!!! However, the service was HORRIBLE!!!! It took us 2 hours to have breakfast. We had to hunt down a waitress to put our order in. Took the kitchen 45 minutes to cook 3 breakfasts and some sides. We were overcharged and not once did we ever get any kind of apology, only excuses. Just to let you know, an apology speaks volumes!!! Not sure I would ever go back.

  • Tanya L.

Service was poor, it took us over 45 minutes to get our food. People came in after us and were served before us. When the server asked how our food was we said it wasn't great and he walked away without acknowledging our comments. One sandwich had clearly been sitting under heat lamp for an extended period of time it was soggy and the meat was dry. They never came back to check on us or ask if we needed a refill on anything. Although I have recommended this place in the past I would not do so going forward.

    - Cute decor but a bit chilly inside (drafty). Clean tables but booths not as comfortable as I would have liked. - Food tasty, big portions. Brie/basil/garlic eggs very garlicky, but good. - Good value, inexpensive. - Service decent/average. - Great locat

Food is pretty good and priced right. Service was horrible, waitresses didn't know where their food and drinks were supposed to go and all continually asked each other where to go. They also weren't the friendliest ppl especially the lady you take your check too. Could of been because they were really busy though

I do not understand why this place is rated so low. My wife ordered the huevos rancheros breakfast and I went with the Cuban sandwich. Both were excellent meals. Perhaps I do not care if the building looks like one built by a big restaurant chain - - - just serve me up some great grub and I am a HAPPY boy! They did it and I left happy. End of story.

This is my go-to place in Hood River. They have a lot of excellent breakfast options, so here are the basics: Great food: The benedicts (especially the California Benedict that they have on their specials menu right now), most of the omelettes, but especially THE HASH BROWNS -- buttery and delicious. Drinks: They have a lot of "fancy" coffee options. The chai tea latte I had there a few months ago was amazing. Also, they serve ALCOHOL, which may be why I like it so much. A mimosa with breakfast? Yes, please! Negatives: Don't sit by the door in the winter. Don't order the crepes florentine -- they are tasteless.

The bloody Mary's are very good, the view is great. The service is good. It's a great place to have breakfast with friends.

Delicious! This place has amazing food, a diverse menu and excellent service. We had a chorizo burrito special and a Greek yogurt parfait and we loved both. On top of that, the view of Mt Adams is incredible! That alone is worth a stop!

  • Rick D.

This was our second trip to Egg River. Start with the coffee. It is the best you will get anywhere in the Northwest, and that is saying a lot. My wife loves their biscuits and gravy, and I had a ham and jack cheese omelet that was perfectly cooked. Prices are a little more than at a Shari's or Denny's, but the great food and coffee are well worth a couple of bucks per entrée more. And the coffee...wow! Service was average, waiter nice, a little slow on the coffee refills, but not enough to complain about. If you go from the Portland area as we do, you get the extra benefit of a beautiful Columbia River Gorge drive. Hands down better than any traditional Portland breakfast I have had. And did I mention their coffee?

This place was packed, and when we saw the food being brought out - and later tasted it - we understood why. Everyone in our party ordered something different, and nobody was disappointed. We'll be back!

I thought this place was great! The food came quickly and was a good sized portion. The Farmers Skillet was good, and the Brea with garlic and basil was amazing! The view is also great as it looks directly up a valley to Mt Adams!!!

I travel extensively with my job and I have come to rely on Yelp for recommendations. I've never written a review before, but I do read those placed by others to try and get a feel for a restaurant. My wife and I had breakfast a couple months ago at the Egg River and had a great experience. The food was good and our waitress was very helpful and friendly. I'm back in Hood River for some R & R and I read some of the Yelp reviews with shock that anyone could post a negative review about the Egg River Cafe. We all have opinions, right? I share them with my wife as she's getting ready this morning to start the day. I'm a bit skeptical to return to the Egg River after some of the negative reviews, but I'm thinking those negative reviews are rare and placed by people with unrealistic expectations. It's breakfast. How bad can it be screwed up? So it's a bit late getting to me. Maybe the eggs are not the way I'd really like them, but what the hell. I'll eat it and be happy. Sometimes hash browns are a bit greasy. I just shrug it off and don't eat as much. No harm. Some people like their hash browns that way. Who am I to judge? Not my preference, but others like it that way. Anyway, we go back to the Egg River Cafe this morning. We're seated immediately. My wife has to ask for a napkin to dry the bench seat off as it's wet from a previous cleaning we presume. The waitress was not happy about our asking for an extra napkin. Perhaps we're being too sensitive. We get a menu and then we wait. And wait and wait and wait. Finally we place our order. We laugh and joke about how we must have jinxed our breakfast. We wait and wait and wait while we count eight people who came in after us get served. We start to wonder. Did we upset the waitress by asking to dry the seat off? We did the drying. No problem. Now we're on the Black List. Finally after waiting at least forty minutes, I tell my wife, " O.K., if that guy who just walked in a few minutes ago gets his breakfast, we're out of here." I've never done anything like that in my 50 years of traveling throughout the world! But I was to that point. Suddenly his breakfast arrives. I point to the door and my wife laughs and asks me, "Seriously"? I nod and suggest we get a bagel at the grocery store. Just then our meal finally arrives! I mention to the waitress that I was beginning to have my doubts that we would be getting breakfast this particular morning. She just says, " I don't know what happened". O.K. "Things" happen. No sense wasting heartbeats over a late breakfast. Bigger "things" going on in the world. Thing is, the meal was NOT good. In fact, it was very bad. The eggs were over cooked, the hash browns were very greasy and we had to ask for our toast which was not forthcoming. (I know I said I'd eat the over cooked eggs and greasy hash browns, but these were beyond belief. Granted, I was a bit ticked at this point) What happened Egg River? I'll bet most people who ate their breakfast there today walked away with positive thoughts. My wife and I on the other hand have never experienced a worse customer service event in quite some time. If the waitress had apologized in some manner, I would have gladly accepted and moved on as well as given a generous tip just for an apology. I will most definitely not be taking another chance at the Egg River Cafe. Management would be wise to read a few of these reviews on Yelp. Who knows? Things may improve. As I mentioned earlier, I read these reviews and make a decision based on them. Thanks to those who take the time to write them. I'll stop being lazy and return the favor.

I have never had service so bad in my life! I ordered an orange juice, my boy friend did the same. The waitress brought his and forgot mine. The staff of two in the almost empty place did their best to not make eye contact so they could continue to ignore us . We had to almost go to the staff ourselves to get a refill on our coffee. My bagel with cream cheese came and had no CREAM CHEESE, just a dried out old bagel. On the menu it states bagel AND cream cheese. I then pulled a very, very long black hair out of the fruit on my plate! Priced very high for VERY bad food and VERY bad service. It might be a good idea to keep the hair out of the food as well. Save your money and have breakfast in bed at home. I am sure you 5 year old could do a better job than these guys!

I've been traveling a lot lately, and much of that in odd, unrelated places. I just found myself leaving a scathing review of Iron Skillet Restaurant in Ontario, CA (don't go there), which somehow reminded me of the very good breakfast I had in Hood RIver last week. I was very pleased with the food, service and coffee at Egg River Cafe, which is pretty much the breakfast trifecta. There was only one server working that morning, and although she had several tables, she was prompt, very nice and not shy with the coffee refills. The menu offered a good, if somewhat uninspired selection of breakfast choices. The ingredients tasted fresh and flavorful, and the choice of organic eggs was a nice one to have. The breakfast potatoes were particularly crunchy and fantastic. All told, Egg River Cafe was a completely enjoyable breakfast experience. If you find yourself trying to decide whether to eat there or at Iron Skill in Ontario, CA, I strongly suggest going to Egg River. Though I don't expect that advice will ultimately help anyone.

Food was good and right on time!! I was sooo hungry when I walked in. I ordered the traditional skillet and it had all the ingredients to punch my stomach in the face! (In a good way). Def another win for hood river.... This is a really great town!!

Good service, decent prices. I got the Mexican Scramble. The chorizo was really good but overall the dish was pretty bland and boring. I had to ask for some sour cream and tabasco to make it better. The potatoes it came with were undercooked for both of us.

Love this place. Real, homemade, sausage gravy. Excellent eggs Benedict. Really good Bloody Mary's. Request the organic eggs. They have an unadvertised seniors menu for those with a smaller appetite. Heading there this morning.

Cute place but don't go for the food. My Benedict was cold, and the "poached" eggs were hard boiled. I was really looking forward to some hash browns but they were too cold to enjoy.

*Breakfast Review* Located at the corner of Oak and 13st streets just West of downtown Hood River, Egg River Cafe (formerly Egg Harbor Cafe) is a good place to have breakfast prior to playing in the outdoors of the Columbia River Gorge. I had the Traditional Omelet with bacon and jack cheese inside. It was large, tasty and not greasy. Bravo! I was also pleased with the side of cut grapefruit, as the sweet fruit countered the salty bacon omelet. The wheat toast was also very good...yes, I am actually commenting on the toast. My wife tried the strawberry waffles and they were tasty, though way too sweet for her tastes. Think strawberry pie. If sweet is your thing, you may want to give the waffles a try. Egg River Cafe was worth the trip. The food is good, the service above average and the view of Mount Adams (on a clear day) is wonderful. Tip: Parking can be tough, as there aren't street spots close to the restaurant. Try their small lot across the street if the few on-site space are full.

It's a reliably good breakfast spot. The service was okay. Everyone looked pretty tired and so it took some effort to get water refills or anything else for that matter. The food was solid, acceptable and good. Nice selection. It was definitely okay. :)

From out of town, and thought we would try this place. Very quaint, trendy, and cute. However, in a town of so many quaint, trendy, cute restaurants, that doesn't really make you stand apart. Service was slow to bad. Only 1 offer of drink refills (I spent most of the meal with 2 empty glasses), never checked back after the food was brought, but was spot on to bring the check while we crammed the final bites in. Food was decent, but not great. My order did not arrive as I requested. The waitress realized that, acknowledged it, but did not offer to fix it. Sausage gravy was from a can, and sausage patties were from a frozen bag. Not a "bad"dining experience, but won't be back. A restaurant that only serves breakfast, needs to do it better then this.

Big Road Trip through the Pacific Northwest brought me to Egg River, totally by accident. Didn't even use Yelp for this find, just spotted it while we were looking for a place to stop so the lady friend could kick me out of the car. She had a phone interview for a job and needed me out of the car for it. My original plan was to just get a drink and do some journaling, maybe take a look at the menu. I saw the long list of eggs benedict and knew I had to eat. I went with the artichoke brie scrambled eggs benedict. Whoa, they were awesome. Maybe non scrambled would have been better, but not sure how it would have all worked out with the brie. R came in from the interview and had to have breakfast too (we had actually already eaten in camp that morning). Smoked salmon eggs benedict for her. Good toast, good hashbrowns.

TERRIBLE food. Do not waste your time eating here. Greasy, over priced and wait staff is awful! There are so many other good places to eat breakfast in Hood River. Try Good News Gardening Cafe. Fresh and delicious!

While their web site paints a pretty picture the food and service does not live up to the hype. Upon entering there is no indication if you should seat yourself, which we finally did after four employees failed to greet us. Unfortunately, the service did not improve as the meal continued. As an example, I finished my coffee, waited for a refill, before flagging down a waitress. She then told me they were out and would need to brew more. In the end, a different server ultimately brought me my second cup... just before our bill. Lastly, our food was very greesy, the toast was cold and the flavor was bland. I will try elsewhere the nex time I pass through town.

We stopped here on Friday morning, having driven past several times before and taken note of the sign promising an "eggceptional" breakfast. It looked like a cute place. Unfortunately, we had a terrible eggsperience. They were busy, but we were seated right away and our orders taken. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. An eggstremely long time. Aside from offers of coffee refills, nobody acknowledged the slow pace of food coming out of the kitchen. The only time our server checked on us was when one of the kids started to get fussy (because he was hungry!), so she threw some packets of saltines on the table. My older child tore into hers, only to tell us seconds later, "I don't like these crackers." What?! Who doesn't like saltines - even stale saltines are good. My husband and I tried them to find out why: they were RANCID. Eggstra, eggstra gross. The server's reaction when I told her about this (not wanting other people to be served rancid crackers): shrug of shoulders. (NB: it takes a very long time for the taste of rancid crackers to leave one's mouth. Vile.) Finally, the food arrives. It was fine. But incomplete. No promised toast with husband's scramble, no side of fruit that we ordered for the kids. Nobody comes to check on us. We eat, wanting at this point only to pay our bill and eggxit the establishment. Manager (?) comes to clear the table and asks how things were. Fine, I say, aside from taking an unacceptably long time for food to come and missing items. "We were crazy busy," he says, by way of eggsplanation/eggscuse. Uneggceptable. Yes, every table was occupied. So either he needs more kitchen staff, more servers, or to seat fewer tables. Not okay to seat customers knowing that you don't have the capacity to meet demand. Check comes, and is ineggxact - we were charged for missing fruit (and offered some discount for slow service - I didn't even check to see what it was because all I wanted to do was pay and leave). I asked to have the fruit charge removed, which led to another eggstreme wait. I tipped about 10%, which I actually thought was generous, considering. Customers in the booths on either side of us appeared to be equally unhappy with their eggsperiences. We will eat at this restaurant eggactly one time, which is too bad, because it seemed like a cute place and the food (when it finally arrived) was good. But the service eggecution was abysmal.

Staff nice, long wait, food cold, second bite...long black hair in eggs, little apology, did nothing to keep my business, had to remind them to take off bill. Again, never did anything to keep my business. Other places in town better prospects!!

My husband, father-in-law, 2 year old daughter and I ate here and were all not impressed with the food or the service. We were seated right away and asked if we wanted coffee or tea. We said we would and while we thought our waiter was going to get the drinks we looked at the menu and gave our food order to a different waiter. After we had ordered and it had been a while we still didn't have drinks so we flagged the waiter down who took the food order and let her know the drink order which she soon brought out. The food took a long time to come and when it did half my order was cold and the other half was bland and didn't taste good no matter how much salt I put on. My father-in-law who likes everything said his food was blah. My husbands dish was good but so spicy it was almost inedible. If I go back I would get just plain eggs with nothing added and the biscuits and gravy which were good even tho they were cold. We had to take the check up to the counter to pay because the waitress was MIA. The whole experience felt as though we were an inconvenience to the staff. I'm in town for the next few days and don't think I will be returning to this place.

Breakfast is usually good however today I had the Mt Adams burger and it was HORRIBLE!!!! The burger advertised as a 3/4 pound angus and what I got was two thin over cooked leather tasting pre made grocery bought burgers. Or at least that is what they tasted like. .The were nowhere close to being cooked medium as i requested. McDonalds is much better for about a third of the cost. Anyhow if you go eat breakfast you might be somewhat pleased, but if your wanting a good burger eat anywhere but here. Also they must have changed there management too. They served the food with the bill and like disappeared. Good luck gettin a coffee refill. And one more thing, wife could not eat there so called fresh fruit since it had been cut up and stored too Long in the refrigerator to the point that it tasted gross. It has really gone down hill.

So my last review was removed by Yelp as I quoted the local health inspector. So.... let it be known that it was not good. Wait staff is absent minded. What is a darn shame is that this establishment is in such a key location in Hood River and could have potential to be a really GREAT place. My comment to "KL" regarding pages and pages of menu... this is NOT a good sign! Pages and pages of menu means tons and tons of spoiled stock. Keep the menu fresh, stick to the basics, have good rotating specials. Any one ever watch Gordon Ramsey Kitchen Nightmares? This place is a good candidate from the outside and as a customer but who knows what the books look like.

Let's start with "seat yourself". Perfectly fine when tables are ready and clean. Not so much when you look around and 5 or 6 tables have no one seated but piles of dishes are there to be greeting you. Then add in a young person on the wait staff in last nights blue party dress that does not acknowledge you as she frowns at the situation in front of her. Should have turned around at that point, but we were told that this is the place to go! We ordered the Florentine Benedict, A Create your own Scramble with Spinach, Sausage and Jack Cheese and a side of Biscuits & Gravy. The Scramble was the first thing we noted was amiss. The Jack Cheese, (as simply stated on the menu AND the bill), was actually pepper-jack. It was not scrambled in but rather was a slice place on top. Left there to melt in I suppose. I don't mind pepper jack, but not really the point. The B&G was average. Have had better, had worse. The biggest complaint was that the biscuits were rather flat and dry. That brings us to the Benedict. Have never seen a greasy one before. Whether it was excessive oil from the side of red spuds, (red because of the oil & spice), or from preparation one only can guess. Bottom line....We both had a very uncomfortable next few hours from this. We will not return or recommend this establishment to anyone.

This place has a unique breakfast menu with items like Crepes Florentine, apple pie filling pancakes, Cinnamon roll french toast, and something else with brie, spinach and garlic, a scramble i think. The menu also included lunch items but i didn't really look at that part since i was eager for a late breakfast. The choices were many and varied and deserve more exploration. The huevos rancheros was pretty good. I always hope for a good chili sauce for coverage but it's hard to find in Oregon. New Mexico has the best chili sauce for breakfast. The Pantry! i better write another review. I didn't give it a 5th star because the top 40 hits were playing on the radio and i really despise hearing commercials while i eat.

Good breakfast choices. There is a lot of variety which is nice for larger parties or people with varied tastes. I had the strawberry waffles and while they were good they were just way too sweet. The strawberry topping was more like strawberry filling for a pie. If they had used half of the amount I think it would have been better. I would go back to try other breakfast items.

The food was great but the service was awful. The waitress was quick but was so short with us from the moment we walked in the door that we felt like we were personally infringing on her day. It made us so uncomfortable that we ate quickly and left.

We sat down at a table with our friends and I pulled up the Yelp reviews....and saw some really bad reviews. We stayed because we were really hungry and two of us had eaten there before and recommended it. I loved the organic egg option for my Crepes Florentine, which were delicious. The spinach was really fresh and cooked perfectly. We all loved our food and loved the ambience. We will definitely go again! They even have a bar - hello - so you can get a Bloody Mary with your omelette. What's not to love?

First things first: the coffee alone makes this place a 5-star rated cafe. It was that good! Second: order the bloody mary. It was one of the best I've had--perfectly spicy, flavorful, nice amount of kick. I ordered the veggie scramble and the organic eggs tasted SO fresh. The grapefruit was plump and juicy. The toast was even perfectly cooked. My friend ordered the special: French toasted croissants with berry mascarpone. UNREAL. I don't live locally, but if I ever visit Hood River again, I'd go here in a heartbeat. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and even gave us several tips for what to do in town. Additionally, the cafe is decorated adorably. Yes, that scores points in my book!! The one thing I will note is we had a group of ten, so we had to split up because they couldn't make a table for all 20 of us. It was no big deal, we sat right across from each other. I blogged about my meal (with photos) here: mealsandmovesblog.com/20…

Skip it. Overpriced, nothing special food and terrible service. I hate to say this about a local biz but I don't appreciate having to accept a poor product just because of the "small town" thing. In all honesty, only two servers so bad service not their fault but why would I want to return? Bette's is much better for food, prices and service.

Our service was timely and friendly and the food was good and prepared well. I did like the option of organic eggs. Also they had a good kids menu for our 2 yr old. My husband said that the coffee was pretty bad!

The food here is great, but what really stood out to me were the pancakes. They were the best I've ever had, a little pricey, but definitely worth it. The chef was also nice when I asked for two other ingredients to be thrown in them, despite the waitress saying it couldn't be done.

We had brunch here, and the food was good. The service was a bit slow, and the prices seemed a bit high. However, they have a solid menu with plenty of breakfast selections. My salmon bagel had tons of great smoked salmon. My husband's cinnamon roll french toast was tasty! The coffee was great.

This is the best breakfast spot in the Hood River/Dalles area. The food is delicious, wait staff is friendly, seating is spacious, and there's a nice view. If this place was in Portland I'd go all the time.

Variety of food is great. View is spectacular! Atmosphere is relaxed, casual. A bit slow on coffee refills (both times I ate here) :-/ If you get the strawberry compote, have them heat it a little....it comes out cold and makes your pancake cold....

OMG! Breakfast heaven! The best eggs ever. We are going back tomorrow! We had the eggs Benedict over potato pancakes. Yummy! Trying something different tomorrow!

Cute place but don't go for the food. My Benedict was cold, and the "poached" eggs were hard boiled. I was really looking forward to some hash browns but they were too cold to enjoy.

Food is pretty good and priced right. Service was horrible, waitresses didn't know where their food and drinks were supposed to go and all continually asked each other where to go. They also weren't the friendliest ppl especially the lady you take your check too. Could of been because they were really busy though

Delicious! This place has amazing food, a diverse menu and excellent service. We had a chorizo burrito special and a Greek yogurt parfait and we loved both. On top of that, the view of Mt Adams is incredible! That alone is worth a stop!

  • Bill B.
